Pro 15:28  The heart of the righteous studieth to answer: but the mouth of the

wicked poureth out evil things.

I liked the way this verse says to studieth to answer. Think before you speak.

There have been times in life that I wished that I would have done that very thing.

There is such wisdom in this verse. Hurt and anger could be avoided if we applied

it to our lives. Ridicule could be avoided and opportunities to do a work for God

could be afforded if we would think before we speak.

Pro 14:16  A wise man feareth, and departeth from evil: but the fool rageth, and is confident.

If you are wise you will fear and depart from evil (sin). You won’t think that you

can handle it, you won’t try to reason within yourself that it’s ok. The only way to

deal with it is to depart from it. Pro 16:6  By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil. The second part of Pro. 14:16 tells you what you are if you don’t. A FOOL!

Pro 13:20  He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of

fools shall be destroyed.

When I was a teenager my parents were very strict with who I could go off with or

spend the night with. It used to infuriate me that they would dare to choose my

friends! But as an adult who have children of my own, I get it now. The friends

that I wasn’t allowed to hang out with were not good choices on my part. They

would have led me to make bad choices, (probably with very little

encouragement). Even with their careful eyes on me I managed to make a few of

my own bad choices. Which is why this verse is so important to take notice of!

Even as adults it’s easy to make bad choices when around the wrong crowd. Pro_28:7  Whoso keepeth the law is a wise son: but he that is a companion of riotous men shameth his father.

Pro 12:1  Whoso loveth instruction loveth knowledge: but he that hateth

reproof is brutish.

As a lost person I hated to be told what to do. Especially when I became as adult. I

was all grown up and didn’t need anybody to tell me what to do.  Pro_1:7  The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.  That’s what I was, a fool, until God opened my eyes and saved me. Thankfully since I was saved God has so graciously instructed me, not that I am perfect in following His instruction, but now I earnestly try to follow Him. I love when He opens my eyes to behold wondrous things in His word.

Pro 11:27  He that diligently seeketh good procureth favour: but he that seeketh

mischief, it shall come unto him.

When I read this verse my question was what was the good that we were to

diligently seek?

1. God is good!!!  Psa_100:5  For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.

2. Seeking to do His commandments is good.  Psa_111:10  The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever.

3. Giving thanks and singing praises to God is good. Psa_92:1  A Psalm or Song for the sabbath day. It is a good thing to give thanks unto the LORD, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High: .

4. Dwelling in unity with the brethren is good. Psa_133:1  A Song of degrees of David. Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!

Pro 10:11  The mouth of a righteous man is a well of life: but violence covereth

the mouth of the wicked.

Today we have lots of options when we need advice on something. We have so

called experts that have written books on every subject under the sun, we have

the internet, we have doctors and the list goes on. But this verse says the lips of a

righteous man is a well of life. When going through trying times we would do well

to seek the council of a righteous man. When I think about this verse my mind

automatically turns to Brother Bill McCrickard. I have never heard him say

anything bad about anyone and he always has an encouraging word.

Pro 10:21  The lips of the righteous feed many: but fools die for want of wisdom.

Lips of the righteous feed many, that’s what we should all aspire to do and be. WE

should use our words to be a well of life and not as instruments of destruction.

Pro 9:13-15  A foolish woman is clamorous: she is simple, and knoweth nothing.

For she sitteth at the door of her house, on a seat in the high places of the city,

To call passengers who go right on their ways:

The thing that stood out to me was the foolish woman was calling out to the people that were going right on their ways. Not those that were lost, who didn’t know where they were going, but to those that were going right. These people knew the way. It’s very important to always acknowledge that we need God and His guidance. When we have knowledge in His Word, it’s very easy to become puffed up and think “we got this”. That is never the case. This is what God has to say about this very thing.  Isa_5:21  Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight! There will never be a time in our lives that “we have it”.

Pro 8:18  Riches and honour are with me; yea, durable riches and righteousness.

I love that word durable. Durable riches aren’t those that we work for here on earth. These durable riches have everything to do with God through Christ.

Php_4:19  But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.  Some of His riches are his goodness, forbearance and longsuffering to us. (Thank goodness for the longsuffering of God)  Rom_2:4  Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?  We also find those riches in His grace (which is never ending). Eph_1:7  In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;. We are strengthened by His riches. Eph_3:16  That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man;. These are just a few of those durable riches. Durable, what a great word.

Pro 7:24-26  Hearken unto me now therefore, O ye children, and attend to the words of my mouth. Let not thine heart decline to her ways, go not astray in her paths. For she hath cast down many wounded: yea, many strong men have been slain by her.

When we stray from God’s will and Word, we are subject to the consequences of those actions. We may think that we can handle those consequences, but these verses are telling us many have been wounded and even strong men have been slain. How devastating our actions can be when not guided by God. We can do nothing without God or His protecting hand. Even Michael the archangel didn’t try to fight Satan on his own but said the Lord rebuke thee. (Jude 1:9).

Pro 6:2  Thou art snared with the words of thy mouth, thou art taken

with the words of thy mouth.

One of the things that really stood out to me was the words “thou art snared with

the  words of thy mouth”. We need to be careful with our words. Often times we

speak before we think and this gets us in trouble and our words come back to

haunt us, this verse says that we are snared by the words of our mouth. Snared,

caught, trapped. By our own words!! But the flip side is if we are careful with our

words they have the opposite effect.  Pro_18:20  A man’s belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled.
